On Planet Earth, nature has been nurturing a wide variety of living organisms and beautiful landscapes. In the history of humanity, many buildings and historical sites have been created to testify to the civilization and cultures of our races.

These sites with “outstanding universal value” are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites based on the the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, so that these natural and cultural treasures can be passed down to future generations. As of August 2010, a total of 911 properties (704 cultural, 180 natural, and 27 mixed properties) have been included on the World Heritage List.
