Plants and Animals

The Ogasawara Islands have never been connected to the continent since its birth. For this reason plants as well as animals were able to evolve in this isolated environment, and many endemic species that cannot be found in other regions exist. It is said that approximately 50 percent of the native plant species are endemic.
